Terms of Service

1. Welcome

These terms govern your use of Caricula — an exam preparation platform for PEP, CSEC, and CAPE students across the Caribbean. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Caricula.

2. Who can use Caricula

• Students aged 13 and over may create their own account with a verified email.
• Students under 13 must be enrolled by a parent, guardian, or school. Parents are responsible for managing the account and supervising use.
• Schools and Ministries of Education may enroll students under a separate bulk-licensing agreement.
• You agree to provide accurate information when signing up.

3. Subscriptions, free trial, and payments

• Caricula offers a 7-day free trial. No card required to start the trial.
• If you choose to subscribe, billing renews monthly until you cancel. Cancel any time from Settings — you keep access through the end of the paid period.
• Caribbean prices are billed in JMD via WiPay (or local equivalents). Diaspora prices are billed in USD via Stripe.
• Refunds: we will issue a full refund within 14 days of purchase if you're not satisfied. Email hello@caricula.com with your account email and we'll process it within 5 business days.
• Prices may change with 30 days' notice. Existing subscribers keep their current price for at least the remainder of their billing year.

4. Acceptable use

You agree NOT to:

• Share your account with people outside your household.
• Scrape, copy, or redistribute past papers, lessons, or AI tutor responses.
• Attempt to bypass rate limits or break our authentication.
• Submit content that is hateful, sexual, threatening, or illegal.
• Use Caricula to commit academic fraud — passing AI output as your own work in a real exam violates examination board rules.
• Reverse-engineer or reproduce any part of the service for a competing product.

5. Your content & AI tutor

You own the questions, essays, and other content you submit. You grant us a limited license to process that content for the purpose of running the service (showing you AI tutor responses, scoring your work, generating progress reports). We do not use your content to train external AI models.

The AI tutor is a study aid, not a guarantee. It uses Caribbean curriculum data and large language models to give answers, but it can be wrong. Always cross-check with your teacher and the official syllabus before relying on AI output for a real assessment.

6. Intellectual property

Past papers reproduced on Caricula are the property of their respective examination boards (Caribbean Examinations Council and equivalents) and are shown for educational purposes. Worked solutions, lessons, illustrations, and the AI tutor system are the property of Caricula. The Caricula name, logo, and brand assets are protected trademarks.

7. Account suspension & termination

We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms. We'll always email you first if reasonable. You can close your account any time from Settings — this deletes all associated data within 30 days.

8. Disclaimers

Caricula is provided "as is". We work hard to keep the service up, accurate, and aligned to current syllabuses, but we make no guarantee of specific exam outcomes. Your grade depends on many factors outside Caricula — including your school, study habits, and test-day performance.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Jamaican law, Caricula's total liability to you in connection with the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be emailed to active subscribers at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Caricula after that means you accept the new terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Jamaica. Disputes that can't be resolved by good-faith conversation will be heard in the courts of Kingston.
